The fastest quote is the one built from a complete RFQ. A vague one doesn't get rejected — it gets a round of clarifying questions before the part route is even confirmed, which is time neither side needed to spend. Geometry, quantity, and material
Attach the current CAD model or controlled drawing and identify the revision when one applies — that's what gets reviewed for manufacturability, per the review step in the RFQ-to-delivery workflow. State the immediate quantity, and mention likely follow-on quantities if they might change the recommended process — a one-off validation part and a production run of the same geometry can point to different routes. There's no minimum order quantity on the shop side, so a single validation part is a normal request on its own, as noted on the about page; the quantity detail matters for routing, not for qualifying to order at all. Specify the material grade and condition, or describe the application when material selection is still open; the materials page has the full grade table if a specific alloy or polymer hasn't been chosen yet.
Finish, critical tolerances, and fit
Name the finish or coating requirement — passivation, polishing, blasting, anodizing, PVD, DLC, or another final condition — the way it's broken down in what medical device surface finishing actually changes. Target delivery date, and what happens after
Provide the date the part is actually needed for the lab, build, or internal milestone — not just a date by which the order might be placed. Typical manufacturing lead time runs three to four weeks depending on scope, so naming the real target date lets that estimate get checked against the calendar early, rather than after material or tooling is already committed. Complete RFQs typically receive a quote within one business day. From there, the quote establishes the manufacturing route, included secondary operations, timing, and any required deliverables, and the part moves through machining, printing, or molding, followed by any finishing or fit checks the specification calls for.
